Quickly Fix a Golf Slice

All golfers both pro and amateurs hate to see their ball do a slice in flight. But what really is a slice in the first place?

Cure Golf Slice!

Golf Slice Defined

A golf slice is a just a certain way a flies towards the hole. The most observed golf slice pattern is the one that curves to the right of a right-handed golf player.

So what causes a slice?

Aerodynamics is the culprit why golf balls curve away to the right in flight. The reason behind this is that the ball is crazily spinning either in a clockwise direction. When the ball is spinning clockwise in flight, we expect to see that it will slice to the right.

Aerodynamics has a lot to do with the slicing behavior of the golf ball. When a golf ball is spinning at high speeds in a clockwise direction, the air pressure surrounding the flying golf ball will not be the same on all sides due to the turbulence created by its spin. (This is also the science behind curve balls in baseball.) Hence, when you hit the ball and cause to spin in flight, you will surely get a slice.

Now that we know why a golf ball swerves to the right during flight, we can correct our golf slice by preventing the golf ball from spinning the moment we hit it with the club.

How to keep the ball from slicing?

1. Grip your club properly.

Holding your club correctly will go a long way to fix a golf slice. The reason behind this is that you make sure to hit the ball squarely to prevent it from spinning in flight. You don’t want to loosely grip the club as this will cause it to twist just enough to spin the ball upon impact. Holding it too tight can also spin the ball unexpected so you would want to grip the club just right.

2. Good Swing.

A proper swing is also essential to prevent the ball from slicing in flight. This includes correct backswing, arms and shoulders movement, and downswing. You need to make sure that your swing remains as smooth as possible.

3. Proper Stance.

Your stance can also spell the difference between a properly hit ball and from something that terribly swerves away from the hole. Observe your stance when you hit a golf slice so you can correct it. Usually when you are aiming too far either to the left or to the right a golf slice is observed. Most of the times, golf slices are manifestations of over compensation.

So there you have our definition of a golf slice and why it occurs. Most importantly you have learned the mechanics behind a golf slice and how to avoid it in the future. We have also given you three pointers on how to cure your golf slice by gripping your club just right, swinging the golf club properly and by observing a proper golf stance.

Hope to see you do better in your golf games!

Happy !
